QFES Commissioner Appointed.

I am pleased to advise that Acting Commissioner Katarina Carroll APM has been appointed permanently to the role of Commissioner Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).

Below is a email from DaveStewart, Director General advising of the position.  QAFA looks forward to strengthening our relationship with Commissioner Carroll.

Appointment of Commissioner, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services

Dear colleagues:

Earlier today the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Commission announced the outcome of the independent recruitment process for the roles of Directors-General, for the first group of the larger service agencies.

I wanted to follow up Robert Setter’s email with some further information.

As you’re aware Katarina Carroll has been appointed in the role of Commissioner, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

Ms Carroll has held the role of Acting Commissioner since early this year, with responsibility for all firefighting, rescue, HAZMAT and disaster management operations across the state. She also manages the Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Fire and Rescue Service and the Office of Emergency Management.

Many of you have worked with Commissioner Carroll and her Senior Management team to support the Minister for Fire and Emergency Services in delivering crucial services across the state.

Ms Carroll joined the Queensland Police Service in 1983. Her early career centred around Detective work in the Drug Squad, a Commission of Inquiry, various Criminal Investigation Branches, the Joint Organised Crime Task Force and the Covert Unit.  She was promoted to Assistant Commissioner, Queensland Police Service in 2010.

In 2012 she undertook the challenging role of Program Executive, G20 Group. In this role she undertook significant planning and commanded some 6,700 police in providing security for 26 world leaders in what was the largest peace time security operation in Australia’s history.

She is the Queensland representative on the Australia New Zealand Counter Terrorism Committee for Forward Command and is an evaluator of national and international counter terrorism exercises.

Commissioner Carroll’s distinguished career includes being recognised with accolades such as the Australian Police Medal, National Police Service Medal, National Emergency Medal and National Medal. She is also a graduate of the Vincent Fairfax Ethics in Leadership Foundation.

Her formal qualifications include an Executive Masters in Public Administration, Degree in Criminology and Graduate Diploma in Applied Management.

I know Commissioner Carroll is highly regarded across government and she will continue to drive the Government’s priorities in delivering front-line services in fire and emergency services to the highest standard to Queensland.  Ms Carroll will officially commence in the role from 1 August 2015.

Thank you for your patience while the merit-based selection process has been undertaken.

Yours sincerely

Dave
